WHO:
The hilarious, new musical comedy, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, based on the Oscar-nominated smash hit 1974 film, is the wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Mary Shelley classic from the comic genius of Mel Brooks. Tony Award winners Roger Bart and Shuler Hensley reprise the roles of Dr. Frederick Frankenstein and The Monster in this hilarious new monster musical playing the Golden Gate Theatre June 30 - July 25, 2010.
Who could forget classic moments with Frau Bluehair (horses whinney); lines such as What hump? or Put the candle back or He was my boyfriend or I suggest you put on a tie.
Blazing Saddles remembered
Speaking of cult favorites from the seventies, I also wonder when Blazing Saddles will become a musical. I remember that first run at the drive-in during the mid 1970s. I had the poster on my dorm room wall at UC Berkeley, a gift from a fellow dormie. However just last week I was on a date with a really sexy 44 year old local and he and I could recite Cleavon Little to each other. Where are all the white women. He could even do the grin. A man after my own heart and yes, I can't wait to see him again bigtime. I would hope Young Frankenstein attracts followers from the original film as well as new kids. How many of the original cast still live except for immortalization on film and stage?

Unfolding in the forbidding Castle Frankenstein and the foggy moors of Transylvania Heights, the show's raucous score includes "The Transylvania Mania," "He Vas My Boyfriend" and the unforgettable treatment of Irving Berlin's "Puttin' On the Ritz." YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN is presented as a part of the 2009-2010 Citibank Best of Broadway series under the direction of Carole Shorenstein Hays. Tickets on sale Sunday, April 11.
