From the creators of The Producers comes a monster musical comedy. The local production of The New Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein will be performed at the Woodlawn Theatre’s main stage for four weeks only. Performances are on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only. It is based on the 1974 comedy of the same name written by Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder and a parody of the horror film genre especially Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.
Young Frankenstein is about young Dr Frankenstein (pronounced Fronkensteen) who insists he is a scientist and not a madman. Upon learning that he has inherited his grandfather’s castle in Transylvania he makes a trip there to tie up loose ends in regards to the property. Once there he is convinced by Igor to finish his grandfather’s work and bring a corpse back to life. Together with his lab assistant Inga and Igor he succeeds in creating a monster but not without scary yet hilarious complications. Memorable tunes include “He Vas My Boyfriend” and “Puttin’ On the Ritz.”
