Cameron Mathison, who portrayed Ryan Lavery on the now defunct ABC daytime drama “All My Children,” issued a tweeted that he is not being considered as a recast of character Adam Newman on “The Young and the Restless.” According to reports, there had been some speculation about Mathison, as well as Trevor St. John, being offered the role.

Cameron Mathison’s tweet regarding the recasting of Adam Newman on Friday, June 13 was not an outright denial. It did offer a very strong indication that he was not being considered for the role of Adam Newman on “The Young and the Restless.” Mathison has a history with Melissa Claire Egan, who portrays Chelsea Newman. On “All My Children, Egan played his wife Annie Lavery, with whom he had a daughter, Emma.

There has been much discussion about casting and recasting on “The Young and the Restless” as well as “General Hospital” over the past several weeks. First came the news that Michelle Stafford was cast as Nina Clay on “General Hospital.” That was followed by the announcement that Gina Tognoni was cast as the new Phyllis Newman. Hot on the heels of that casting news came the announcement that David Tom was out as Billy Abbott and Burgess Jenkins was in. On June 13 rumors that Billy Miller had been cast as Jason Morgan on “General Hospital” hit the internet. There has been no official announcement regarding Miller and “General Hospital,” but one is expected soon.

For those not familiar with Cameron Mathison’s work, he portrayed Ryan Lavery on the ABC soap opera “All My Children” from 1998 until 2002 and returned to the role in 2003 until the soap’s cancellation in 2011. Lavery arrived in town as a con man and eventually married Gillian Andrassy. Ryan Lavery was engaged to Kendall Hart, portrayed by Alicia Minshew. His other marriages included Greenlee Smythe and Annie Lavery. His marriage to Annie was declared invalid because Greenlee, who had been presumed dead, returned to town. Ryan also engaged in an affair with former fiancé Kendall Hart’s mother Erica Kane. Erica was also the grandmother of his child with Kendall, a boy named Spike.

If Cameron Mathison were to be cast as the new Adam Newman fans may see immediate chemistry between him and his new, and former, co-star Melissa Claire Egan. The pair has worked well together in the past and may help to ease the transition for fans still angry over Michael Muhney’s abrupt termination.
