This has been a wintery year of abundant snow in New England, a skier’s haven. Mount Snow Ski Resort offers a popular way to enjoy the sport to its fullest.

Mount Snow is a mountain summit in southern Vermont at 3, 556’ elevation, a few miles east of The Appalachian Trail receiving 156” snowfall each year. The mountain is within green Mountain National Forest with a ski resort operating under special use permit from the U.S. Forest Service by owner and operator Peak Resort. It is 9 miles north of Wilmington VT on route 100 and 29 miles from US 91.

One exceptional feature of Mount Snow Resort is its unique high-speed transport to the mountaintop called the Bluebird Express. The $8.5 million advanced chairlift allows bubbles of each chair to be lowered by passengers. This gives the protection of a gondola cabin yet allowing skis or snowboard to remain on passenger’s feet.

The resort of 588 acres has a base elevation of 1900’, dropping 1700’ over its 107 ski runs. The longest run Long John is 3.1 mile, the most challenging runs Jaws and Ripcord. Eighty percent of the runs have snowmaking with night skiing in designated areas of the resort. Its lift capacity is an impressive 30,370 skiers per hour.

This Green Mountain ski resort is a well liked due to its accessibility from southern metropolitan area. It is 2.5 hours from Boston (127 miles) and 4 hours from New York City (213 miles), Albany is 68 miles, Hartford CT 117 miles, Washington DC 425 miles and Philadelphia 291 miles.

Mount Snow Ski Resort is 7.5 miles north west of West Dover, Vermont. Dover is a town of 1,410 population, Rock River and north branch of the Deerfield River flows through the town. The area offers a variety of restaurants to end an enjoyable day of skiing.

Brattleboro is 30 miles east of Mount Snow Ski Resort, with a population of 8,289 at 226” elevation. It was the state’s first permanent English settlement with Fort Dummer built in 1724.

Bennington is 30 miles west of Mount Snow Ski Resort, at 728’ elevation and population of 9,168. It sits in a valley between the foothills of the Green Mountains and Mount Anthony, part of the Taconic Range. American troops fought under General John Stark The Battle of Bennington defeating the British on August 16, 1777.

Mount Snow is a 4:45 hour drive of 300 miles from Rochester NY. Drive I-90 east to Albany then route 7 east into Vermont becoming route 9 to Wilmington. Drive north on route 100 to Mount Snow Ski Resort.
