If you are new to gardening knowing when to plant is very important. In deciding when to plant the most important factor to consider is the temperature ranges for you area. Unless you are willing to put in lots of extra time and work to cover and protect your new plants, you need to make sure you plant after the frosts are done.

This webpage, http://www.humeseeds.com/frost1.htm#ID, has a chart that shows the average last frost for many of the cities in the state of Idaho. Remember this is the average last day, if you plant, there is a 50% chance that there will be a frost that might kill your new plants. The safe column is the date that it is most likely safe to plant, it is not a guarantee that there will not be a frost, this is Idaho.
