You've gotta fight for your right to parent!

In 1986, an album titled License to Ill by the Beastie Boys featured a hit song titled (You Gotta) Fight for Your Right to Party. Far removed from the parody of teen rebellion against parental authorities and teachers, the song’s message became lost among the many who heralded it as their own anthem against controlling authorities over their desire to do as they wish, when they wish, and how they wish. Despite this, the Marysville Parenting Examiner has just finished watching a disturbing full-length docudrama about the eroding rights of Parents in the United States.

Uploaded to YouTube on November 16, 2011, the video is titled Overruled: Government Invasion of your parental Rights (Official Movie). One of the feature narrators is Michael P. Farris, founder and President of parentalrights.org. He is also Chairman of the Home School Legal Defense Association and political advocate for the rights of Parents in their duties of rearing children. The video and website are a must resource for parents within the local Marysville Community because it substantiates the long held notion that parenting challenges and issues today is central to the dissolution of the parental rights in the upbringing of their children.

This includes physicians refusing to provide parents the right to view their child’s medical records without prior permission from their own child. Another where there is lack of parental oversight of parental rights and educational systems informing parents of potentially harmful or controversial topics of discussion – including premature introduction into sex education and even introduction into homosexual lifestyles. Even more disturbing is a case from Washington State where a 13 year old sued his parents for “excessive participation in religious attendance” and the Washington State Courts upholding – not state law or federal statutes, but a UN International Treaty that supersedes State or Constitutional law.

Parents within the Marysville community must take action; write to their congressional leaders to support The Parental Rights Amendment. According to the parentalrights.org website, there are three sections to the amendment that establishes the constitutional protection of the rights of the parents, and removes any formal adoption of any treaty or foreign law/policy that would imply the dissolution of the parental rights to raise their children.

The first section would declare that the liberty of parents to direct the upbringing and education of their children is a fundamental right. The second section will state: Neither the United States nor any State shall infringe upon this right without demonstrating that its government interest as applied to the person is of the highest order and not otherwise served. Finally, the third section of the amendment stipulates the following: No treaty may be adopted nor shall any source of international law be employed to supersede, modify, interpret, or apply to the rights guaranteed by this article.

For more information concerning the more in-depth understanding of this amendment, court cases supporting the amendment and importance why parents need to contact their political leaders can be read here – Understanding the Parental Rights Amendment.

Take action now, because it is your right to parent your child without government dictation and interference.
