Need an excuse to take time off from work to commune with nature? Then by all means make plans to join other nature lovers and District 1 Palm Beach County Commissioner Hal R. Valeche and other partners for the opening ceremony of the new and improved Pantano Trail scheduled for Tuesday, August 5th at 9 a.m.

Located at the Northeast Everglades Natural Area (NENA) Trailhead in Riverbend Park, Jupiter, the new 5.6 mile Pantano Trail runs from Riverbend Park through the 12,836-acre Loxahatchee Slough Natural Area to the J.W. Corbett Wildlife Management Area, 60,348 acres northwest of West Palm Beach. Open daily from sunrise to sunset, this multi-use trail will offer an accessible surface for cyclists and hikers, shade shelter, bike racks at trail heads to natural area trails, and informational kiosks and signage.

This will be the third NENA trail improvement project constructed in Palm Beach County. Project partners include PBC Environmental Resources Management, PBC Parks & Recreation, South Florida Water Management District, PB Metropolitan Planning Organization, and the Florida Department of Transportation.

The ceremony, which is free and open to the public, will take place at the south end of Riverbend Park. Due to limited access, parking is available at one of the following locations:

  • Hikers, bikers and horseback riders should park at Riverbend Park, 8060 Indiantown Road and hike, bike or ride approximately 1.3 miles to the ceremony site.
  • All other who need transportation to the ceremony site should park at Jupiter Farms Park, 16655 Jupiter Farms Road and take a shuttle to the trailhead. Space is limited, however, so you must make a reservation no later than July 30th and arrive by 8:30 a.m. on August 5th.

Note: The event will take place rain or shine and comfortable shoes and clothing are recommended. Also, restrooms are not available at the ceremony site, but are available near either parking location.

For more information about the event or to reserve your spot on the shuttle, please contact Samantha Corr at 561-233-2455.
