You, Me & Tea ...

There’s tea for every taste at You, Me & Tea in Port Jefferson, N.Y. With over 300 varieties of tea, owners Rob and Susanne Schaffer seek to create and encourage a uniquely American experience with tea. Our hope says, co-owner Susanne Schaffer, is to encourage people to appreciate tea “one cup at a time.”

What started as a quaint small shop of classic porcelain tea cups and accessories, Earl Greys, and English Breakfast teas has evolved into a new world of flavor. High quality loose black, green and white teas are blended into a variety of caffeine and caffeine-free flavors for every palate. Tea is not what it used to be here.

A flavor selection that surpasses Starbucks, in tea, you’ll find Earl Greys infused with citrus fruit, 1000 Cranes Blend, a white tea flavored with fruits, rose petals, cinnamon and shredded coconut. Jasmine Dragon tears, a fragrant green tea, boasts “an extraordinary taste experience”. Kids will enjoy the sweet natural flavors of Bubblegum tea from Canada or Hibiscus tea which tastes like lemonade and makes a great iced tea. There’s something here for everyone. Even coffee drinkers may find their cup of tea in the “woodsy, smooth character” of a flavored black tea or an Oolong tea, available in a wide range of flavor and caffeine content.

Dessert Teas

Decaffeinated and herbal teas are the most widely consumed teas in the United States. Caffeine-free Rooibos tea offers something new to the American market, dessert teas. Coconut Custard, Crème de Caramel, Tuscan Pear and White Winter Marzipan flavored with almond and papaya offer an entirely different taste experience to American tea drinkers.

Tea 101

To get the best tasting tea, you must be sure that you brew the tea properly, says Susanne Schaffer. A poorly brewed cup of tea can be bitter and taste very differently than you would imagine. For the best cup of flavorful tea, brewing tips are available online at You, Me & Tea.

To Your Health

As the old adage goes, “a cup of tea solves everything”. There’s no problem that can’t be solved over a cup of tea. There’s more truth to this than we realize. Though a good cup of tea and chatting with friends will surely make you feel better, research shows that tea has many real medicinal benefits as well. Real tea extracts are a natural source of anti-oxidants.

“All tea, no matter what country it comes from, flavoring or blend, comes from the same tea plant”, says Susanne Schaffer. The difference is the level of oxidation or fermentation. There are three basic teas: black tea, green tea and white tea. Black tea is the most oxidized with the least amount of anti-oxidants. White tea is the least oxidized and has the most health benefits.

Americans are most familiar with black tea, known to decrease cardiovascular disease and stroke. Rooibos tea helps digestive problems. Green teas speed up the metabolism and white teas have many health benefits.

Tea Samplers

You, Me and Tea offers tea samplers. Each sampler contains five different teas, selected by the owners to reflect a full range of flavor. For $10 - $15, you will get five different teas and approximately five cups of tea for each flavor.

You, Me and Tea is just steps away from art galleries, local shops and eateries in Port Jefferson harbor.
