After weeks of voting on www.DailyMtg.com, "Magic: The Gathering" players have created a new card that'll be featured in an upcoming set by Wizards of the Coast. Waste Not can be a powerful enchantment that may have a significant impact on your duel in the right deck.
Waste Not - 1B
Enchantment
Whenever an opponent discards a creature card, put a 2/2 black Zombie creature token onto the battlefield.
Whenever an opponent discards a land card, add BB to your mana pool.
Whenever an opponent discards a noncreature, nonland card, draw a card.
Spells that allow your opponent to choose which card they discard like Mind Rot aren't the most efficient option for your deck if you're trying to abuse specific triggered abilities of Waste Not, unless it's a repeatable ability like found on Liliana's Reaver. Instead, you'll want to utilize cards such as Duress or Thoughtseize and Sin Collector if you're looking to maximize its effectiveness.
Waste not helps make Soul Ransom even better, and because using Liliana of the Veil doesn't require you to invest mana, Waste Not can potentially accelerate higher costed spells. Cards that cause your opponent to discard in multiple like Rakdos's Return will obviously shine, and Sire of Insanity is a current Standard card that'll force your opponent to discard their hand however it's cards such as Whispering Madness have some deadly potential with Waste Not because it'll refuel the cards in their hand so you can make them discard again.
Waste Not has no impact on the battlefield and is a bad top-deck late game. It requires you to cast it early in order to be effective against your rival, won't help you win by itself, and relies on other cards to have an impact. Despite these drawbacks, Waste Not looks like a fun "build around me" card with potential to be abused.
How will you use Waste Not?
