If one were to digest the political garbage going on in Washington with Congress, which is experiencing a whopping 8% approval rate in some of the latest polls, you would have to have your stomach pumped or take a toxic amount of Prilosec. As a non-believer of most political surveys, in all honesty I can't really believe the 8% figure. The problem with all political polls, is that you can get the result you want by asking a question in a manner that gives you the answer you want.
One recent AP poll showing how badly the Republicans were doing in the recent government shutdown was taken with 20% of those polled being federal government employees, and a 12% sampling advantage of Democrats over Republicans. That's like claiming 100% of all doctors surveyed believe in God (inferring of course, that the medical community is really religious). If the doctors you surveyed were all PHD's in theology, you may not draw the same conclusion. Government employees are overwhelmingly Democrat running as high as having a 75% advantage over Republican. Polls are only valid when you understand who was polled and what questions were asked.
Additionally, watching man-on-the street interviews clearly show 50% of the population is absolutely brain-dead and have no clue as to what's going on in the world except who's leading in the vote for Dancing with the Stars. It's even worse when Obama voters are questioned about their knowledge of current events. While I doubt the overall public, which would have to include Obama supporters, indicate only 8% of the public really believe Congress is doing a good job, then maybe people are finally waking up. The Mainstream Media's 5-year propaganda campaign to keep Obama and the Democrats looking like Mother Teresa may be finally be wearing thin even on those lining up at the trough for government handouts.
Ending my last article I thought it would be a good idea to talk about the current and seemingly never-ending gridlock in Washington where common sense and decency seem to have disappeared. Thinking that with the nation facing yet another budget crisis and debt-ceiling fiasco at a time when the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) was being launched, we would have enough controversy to talk about for several weeks. Boy, was that an underestimation!
I think we need to start with the current gridlock in Washington, which contrary to what the mainstream press is saying, is how the Separation of Powers was designed to work and is clearly defined by the Constitution whereby, the House of Representatives (the Peoples' House), has the power of the purse. They are in charge of funding. All of the chaos might have been avoided had the Senate and House done their jobs years ago by passing a federal budget every year as required by law. But for 10 years they have tried to run the world's largest economy (aka business) on continuing, short-term Mickey Mouse resolutions. If any company tried to operate like this, the stockholders would run them out of town on a rail.
So the President and Democrat members of the Senate and House can scream all they want about the President and his "voter's mandate" to move forward regardless of the cost s being incurred, but remember, the members of the House were also given a mandate by their voters. Congressmen are far closer to their constituencies because they are elected every two years and represent specific legislative districts, while Senators who have been entrenched in Washington for decades, seldom if ever, have to answer for their actions, and are most likely out-of-touch with those they profess to represent.
Let's face it; the government is behind some of the dumbest things anyone can imagine as they continue to try to flim-flam the voting public sliding laws, rules, regulations, pork projects and new taxes by the people. Naturally the more informed portion of the population are on to the many tricks politicians do to gain more power while they exempt themselves from the very laws the rest of the people must live under. It probably shouldn't be surprising that anyone with an ounce of common sense would be suspicious of everything government does and why those who really understand what's happening rate politicians in general, far below attorneys and used car salesmen. In short, the free enterprise system hires the best, the government attracts all the rest!
Since I have been writing articles on Veterans and Military Affairs, I have been forced to cross the line into politics on many occasions. Most people over the age of forty can vividly recall the advice from their mothers as they were growing up…"Never discuss religion and politics", but today it is impossible to discuss almost any subject without having to deal with politics. The forthcoming debate on the federal debt ceiling, and the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamcare), and a recent 2nd Amendment end-run by the Senate, affect Veterans and their families at least as much as the population in general (all involve politics)…so to understand them, we have to open this cans of worms.
I think the way to best to approach these multifaceted scenarios is to describe the week beginning on Monday accompanying a week of absolute stupidity regarding the shutdown of government due to the inability to work out a compromise keeping the government funded until cooler heads prevail. Little was heard about Benghazi, the IRS, the inequities of Obamacare and the many problems people were having from the government website. This week's news was about the mainstream media once again being derelict in their duties to investigate, report, and exposed what goes on behind the veil of secrecy in government. The media this week disregarded how inept things were being handled by everyone in Washington to focus almost solely on "those damned traitorous Republicans".
If the press was doing their job taking apart the arguments from both sides we would no longer be ragging about a press that has lost all credibility. What has evolved since the coronation of Barack Obama, is a sleazy and slobbering love affair, not seen since Anthony and Cleopatra, between Obama/Democrats and the mainstream press. We don't get news, we don't get facts, we don't get the truth, we are being fed (like in "shoved down our throats") the talking points manufactured behind closed doors and disseminated by White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, who then cajoles the press into believing they are "facts" that cannot be substantiated or are in fact, outright misrepresentations. Any serious questioning is met with back-peddling and declarations of presidential secrecy.
Regardless of the TEA Party influence in the House and the conservative's attempt to defund Obamacare, we are now well passed that point. The next step would be to consider what Obama is demanding from the House, and that is to pass a "clean debt-ceiling increase". For anyone with half a brain, we can look at this in terms of our own family budgets…When you've reached the end of your personal credit line (in this case the government has far exceeded our children's ability to repay the $17 trillion in debt we are leaving them), would you go to your local bank and tell the manager, "Look, I've spent all my money and have reached the end of the credit line you gave me because I was stupid and spent money on ventures that went south. I need you to give me more credit"?
This is the Wimpy Syndrome…"I'll gladly pay you next week for the hamburger you buy me today!" America…it is time to wake up!
There will never be an end to the insatiable appetite a "progressive (i.e Marxist oriented) government" has for your tax dollar. Obamacare will add an additional 18 new taxes which will take another $771 billion dollars from the U.S. taxpayer while at the same time reducing Medicare reimbursements by an estimated $716 billion. If you are currently on Medicare, you already know how hard it is to find a doctor taking any new Medicare patients because they cannot cover their costs from the paltry sums the government pays for procedures.
At a time when we have more and more Medicare eligible retirees coming into the system and with more than 20 million workers unemployed or under employed, ask yourself, "where is the money going to come from to float this financial albatross the government is creating". Hells bells folks, youth unemployment and underemployment among college graduates now averages 44%. Meanwhile, the average student debt in the U.S. has risen to $26,000. The entire healthcare situation is driving the country to further uncertainty and creating part-time employees out of the once greatest workforce in the world.
The Guardian is now labeling the American dream as the "American debt."
So, let's go back to the White House claim, that the Republicans are terrorists holding the public hostage because they will not pass a "clean debt-ceiling increase", and that the Republican extremists from the TEA Party have no right to use their stall tactics because President Obama has a mandate for his policies. That was reaffirmed by his re-election, and any reference to Obamacare is a moot point because it was declared the Law of the Land and was declared Constitutional by the Supreme Court. While this is all true, the Administration and the press aren't talking about the lawsuits filed by the states of Oklahoma, Indiana, with many others pending, that could negate several key provisions of the Affordable Care Act rendering it useless.
The next saga in the never-ending battle to take back our government from those out to fundamentally change America to a socialist/Marxist country, will take up where we leave off today. First up in the next verse of our own version of "God Save America" will be how the Progressive, far-left Democrats, who despise the Constitution, are trying to force their will upon the rest of America through treaties with the UN. The Founding Fathers gave us a great tool, and we continue to win the fight with the anti-American crowd when the Constitutional rule of law prevails.
