Here we are in July, another a month has gone by in 2014 and things just seem to go from bad to worse, but most will never hear that if they listen to the mainstream media. Hardly a word in print, except for a few stalwart newspapers and with most radio/TV networks out-to-lunch with the exception of Fox News and an occasional ray of light from ABC and CBS about Benghazi; the targeting of IRS officials against those who disagree with Mr. Obama's policies; the Federal budget; selective prosecutions by the Justice Department; the invasion of our southern border by illegal aliens; the incompetence and criminal behavior of the Veterans Administration; Obamacare; and the abuse of executive power (the Supreme Court unanimously agreed Obama has over-stepped his presidential authority on numerous occasions).
The news media which has invested so much in the election and re-election of Mr. Obama has spun nearly all the scandals which seem to occur at the rate of one every couple of weeks, as simple political tactics of The Right or of a politically motivated Congress. An example is the recent unemployment figures just announced...The Washington Post reports the Bureau of Labor Statistics numbers show that "America’s hiring spree kicked into full gear in June as the economy added more than 200,000 jobs for the fifth month in a row, according to government data released Thursday".
They went on to say, "Perhaps most important, Gallup found that 45 percent of Americans were working full-time in June, one of the highest rates since the polling company began tracking the figure four years ago. The government data released Thursday mirrored those results, with the employment-to-population ratio rising to 59 percent, the highest level since 2009". At the bottom of the Gallup report, they concluded however, “While few might agree that the economy has recovered from the Great Recession, there is no doubt that the job market is much stronger now than in prior years”...prior years meaning since the total collapse in 2008-2009. This all sounded too rosy for me, because most of those I know, as well as myself, just don't feel good about the economy and can't trust the government which has lied on so many occasions.
Since the government controls the statistical numbers and since they can count on the press to either mimic what they disclose or better yet, gloss over numbers to place the administration in the best light, to get the true picture you have to go do the research yourself, and I did.
The number of long-term unemployed workers declined but remained elevated at more than 3 million, and they represent about a third of those without a job. The ranks of people working part-time even though they would like more hours actually increased by more than 250,000. Economists say those factors help make the unemployment rate a less reliable reading of the state of the recovery than it once was. However, the workforce participation rate remains at a 36-year low, while the number of involuntary part-time workers rose by 275,000:
The mainstream media repeated the government rhetoric about the joy on Pennsylvania Avenue by reporting "The Labor Department reported 288,000 net new jobs were created in June, and the unemployment rate dropped to 6.1 percent. In June, the unemployment rate declined by 0.2 percentage point to 6.1 percent. The number of unemployed persons decreased by 325,000 to 9.5 million. Over the year, the unemployment rate and the number of unemployed persons have declined by 1.4 percentage points and 2.3 million, respectively". Remember from my previous articles, it takes about 140,000-150,000 new jobs each month just to keep up with new employable people entering the job market from school graduates, those who had been classified as institutionalized, and from immigration, so real job growth would be at best 130,000.
Here's what they didn't tell you:
In June, the civilian labor force participation rate was 62.8 percent for the third consecutive month (meaning 37.2 percent of the folks are not working). The employment-population ratio, at 59.0 percent, showed little change over the month but is up by 0.3 percentage point over the year. And while there really was some good news in that the FULL-TIME employment rose from 44.5% to 45% (a rise of .5%), the numbers for PART-TIME employment tell the real story about the economy. The number of persons employed part time for economic reasons (sometimes referred to as involuntary part-time workers) increased by 275,000 in June to 7.5 million. The number of involuntary part-time workers is down over the year but has shown no clear trend in recent months. How many married adults can make ends meet working part-time?
Of those part-time workers it should be interesting to note the following Bureau of Labor Statistic numbers for June:
- Employed persons at work part time part time for economic reasons.... 7,544 (in millions)
- Slack work or business conditions.............................................................4,525
- Could only find part-time work..................................................................2,648
- Part time for noneconomic reasons........................................................ 19,880
- Total workers working part-time..................................................34,597
- Persons not in the labor force (not seasonally adjusted)
- Marginally attached to the labor force..................................................... 2,028
- Discouraged workers................................................................................... 697
So if we have at total number of people with jobs at 146,221,407 and of those 34,597,000 working at part-time jobs, just how good can the economy be with only 76% having full-time jobs? The sad part of it is that this still doesn't tell the real story.
Think about these numbers...According to the last census the population of the United States was 318,892,103. There are a total of 146,221,407 (45%) OF THE POPULATION CARRYING THE FINANCIAL BURDEN of a country that is nearly $18,000,000,000,000 ($18 TRILLION) in debt, meaning each person employed in this country is accountable to repaying $123,101 of the National Debt! The rest, I guess are just cruising along oblivious to this fact and coasting through life at the expense of those working to carry the load. This is the result of the "redistribution" mentality.
Indeed. And while the overall job growth is better than a lesser number, it’s still not high enough to make a dent in the ranks of the chronically unemployed from the last six years; and only once in the past 4+ years of the Obama Administration has the number of jobs added exceeded the number of people leaving the workforce. If I were to text this to my friends, I would have to add...OMG!
Moving on... Marguerite Bowling reported last week for The Daily Signal that according to a report released earlier this month on Obamacare by the Office of Inspector General at the Department of Health and Human Services, “the online federal marketplace could not resolve nearly 90 percent (or 2.6 million) of its 2.9 million data ‘inconsistencies,’ which include citizenship status, income, incarceration status, and Social Security numbers.” But that's okay I guess for the low-information populace, they are marching along like sheep in tune to the orchestrated government intent on dumbing-down the citizenry...surprise, surprise, surprise.
And then we have the recent Supreme Court decision regarding Obamacare's effort to stamp-out the First Amendment provision which protects a person's right to freedom of religion and the practice thereof, which would include their religious beliefs. The issue boiled down to the provision mandating companies to provide birth control that includes pills that induce abortion. It did not tackle the other birth control methods covered under Obamacare. When the decision came down, the liberal-progressives went ballistic. Remember it was Pelosi who decried, "the House needs to pass Obamacare so we can see what's included in it".
“We’re going to do something about the "Hobby Lobby legislation" (the Supreme Court decision) and we need to correct it,” said Senate Leader Harry Reid. Reid’s comments echo similar sentiments from top Senate Democrat leaders, Patty Murray (WA)., and Dick Durbin (IL) who are currently leading a legislative push against the court’s decision. Nancy Pelosi over in the House of Representatives pitched-in with, "We should be afraid of this court, that five guys [are] determining what contraceptives are legal or not. That court decision was a frightening one that five men should get down to the specifics of whether a woman should use a diaphragm and she should pay for it herself or her boss. It’s not her boss’s business.”
In the first place, they are not going to change the Constitution with a law no matter how craftily they try to write it and the likelihood of any Senate law to that effect getting through the House makes it a moot point. Ms. Pelosi's comments however, are right up there with other words of wit by those we have put in office. The Supreme Court ruling was in regards to birth control pills which induce abortion, ONLY. Obamacare would still force employers to cover other forms of birth control.
As Mark Twain would say, "Suppose you were an idiot, and suppose you were a member of Congress; but I am repeating myself."
To prove Mark Twain' observation was correct all we have to do is just look at a few of the most memorable quotes from our leaders:
"Seniors love getting junk mail. It’s sometimes their only way of communicating or feeling like they’re part of the real world." Harry Reid
"Every month that we do not have an economic recovery package 500 million Americans lose their jobs." Nancy Pelosi
Sheila Jackson Lee appearing on MSNBC during the current Mexican border crisis, claimed things were fine.“I disagree that our border is in devastating condition.”
"Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states? I think I have one left to go." Barack Obama
Representative Hank Johnson embarrassed himself and members of Congress in general, when he stated during the House Armed Services Committee hearings on the Island of Guam, "My fear is that the whole island will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize."
In 1997, while on a trip to the Mars Pathfinder operations center in California, Sheila Jackson Lee asked, "Was the Pathfinder successful in taking a picture of the flag planted on Mars by Neil Armstrong in 1969”. Is she so dumb she doesn't know the difference between the moon and Mars?
Another momentous occasion by Ms. Lee In addressing the House of representatives, “Maybe I should offer a good thanks to the distinguished members of the majority, the Republicans, my chairman and others, for giving us an opportunity to have a deliberative constitutional discussion that reinforces the sanctity of this nation and how well it is that we have lasted some 400 years, operating under a Constitution that clearly defines what is constitutional and what is not.” Obviously she's not to bright on American history either.
Note...to the defenders of those in Congress who truly believe they are the best and brightest we can elect...that would mean the Constitution was written in 1614, over one hundred years before the birth of most of the Founding Fathers.
Sheila Jackson Lee's comments as well as those who are in tune with the direction the country is headed can be easily summarized by a couple of quotes which appeared on a website I found while researching this article:
" The scariest thing is that a dolt like Sheila Jackson Lee works with other Democrat imbeciles to draft federal laws that impact on the way we live. Their stupidity is a danger to the freedoms of all Americans",
"Lee is turning out to be THE definition of liberal-progressive (word changed for decency) stupidity. The people that keep voting for this (word omitted for decency) clown ought to be sterilized."
And finally...at a time in history, when there is danger in all corners of the world, we have the government issuing "pink slips" to members of our military, many of whom are deployed in the Middle East war zone. The one true duty of our government is to protect the country and it looks as if that task is going down the sewer with everything else.
We have a government which seems unaware of a rising Soviet threat to the stability of Eastern Europe; a new terrorist nation carved out of Syria/Iraq called ISIS; Hamas lobbing a hundred rockets a day into Israel and Israel moving 40,000 troops to the edge of Gaza which might spark an all inclusive war in the Middle East; recent Chinese military adventurism along the border with India, provoking the U.S. Navy in international waters, and intruding upon the Japanese-controlled Senkaku Islands; and the Commander in Chief wants to reduce our military to pre-World War II readiness levels. This is insane.
