You don’t have to wait for good news

A Daily Word from the Word for Tuesday, May 13, 2014

“Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, ‘Do you want to be made well?’” – John 5:5-6

Thirty-eight years is certainly a long time to wait for help. How many of us, like this poor soul, have waited far longer than we need to for our help, for our break-through? Do you know that you don’t need to wait for another human being to bring you to your healing? Perhaps the very person who you are waiting on likes keeping you in your condition or situation. Possibly, you really don’t want your break-though; because there is a certain level of comfort, of satisfaction in attention-getting, by staying in your predicament. Or maybe, you just don’t know how to go about reaching out for your deliverance, and didn’t realize that you have the power already available to you.

Let us read the entire story, because there is so much breakthrough contained in the revelation of God’s Living Word found in this account.

“After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had. Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, ‘Do you want to be made well?’ The sick man answered Him, ‘Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Rise, take up your bed and walk.’ And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked. And that day was the Sabbath” (John 5:1-9)

The Greek word for “angel” is aggelos (ang-el-os) which means “to bring tidings, a messenger, induce” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance). Are you waiting on an angel, a pastor, a priest, or another messenger to bring you tidings, family? Do you know that you can literally hold tidings in your hand, and have your very own personal messenger to bring you tidings all day long and whenever you want it? It is the Bible, which is the Logos (Written) and the Rhema (Spoken) Word of God. That’s right, my brother; most certainly, my sister. The Word of God, through the Bible, is your greatest messenger to bring you the Good News, the tidings, that you need for your spirit, soul, and body.

Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines “tidings” as “a piece of news.” The Bible is the good news of Jesus Christ! You can’t get better news than that! Webster further defines “induce” as “to move by persuasion or influence, to call forth or bring about by influence or stimulation.” You get the Word of God inside of you by reading it, speaking it, meditating on it, and confessing it. And once you start to get the Father’s Living Word in you, as it takes root and becomes alive in you, then watch out! God’s Word in you will cause you to move that situation out of your way! The Word of God will bring about healing, restoration, deliverance, and break-through! You, like the Apostle Paul, will be persuaded “that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).

The “water” that the angel stirred up was hudatos (pr. hoo-dat-os) which is “literally or figuratively water, to be accessed by a water-drinker.” Are you ready to get even more blown away than you already are right now? John 7:38 testifies “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, Rivers of Living Water will flow from within him.” The word for “water” used in John 7:38 is the same word and meaning as used in our study verse! It is the same water! Jesus is the Living Water, and when we accept Him as our Lord and Savior, call on His sinless Blood as atonement for our sins, and ask Him to live permanently within us, we now have that same healing water inside of us! So what are you waiting for, family? Drink up!

Father, thank you for the Gospel of Jesus Christ! Thank you that through your Son, we have everything that we need pertaining to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). We call forth a full measure to overflowing of your Rivers of Living Water to flow from us. In Jesus Name, we thank You that we do not have to wait because every need is already met through the One in whose Name we pray. Amen and Amen!

Take Action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to start relying on God and stop relying on people for what only God can do for you, in you, and through you. Choose to allow His Word to get inside of you, by getting into His Word every single day. And continue to fight the good fight of reading, speaking, meditating on, walking in, and confessing the Living Word of God persistently; for God, your True Confession, has already given you the victory!

If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!
