The Indie music lovers of Philly are no doubt stoked for Sharon Van Etten’s performance at Johnny Brenda’s tomorrow night, but the hardcore hipsters are most likely twitching in their worn-out skinny jeans over the opening band, Shearwater and best of all they could win free tickets to the sold out show. The Austin Texas natives have been an underground favorite since they first came on the indie scene in 1991. Originally formed by band members of Okkervil River, Will Scheff and John Meiburg; the band now consists of Jonathan Meiburg, Thor Harris, Kim Burke, Jordan Geiger, and Kevin Schneider. Shearwater have received much praise for all 6 of their full length releases and their chamber pop sound is well respected among their peers.
Animal Joy is the first album Shearwater will be releasing under the Sub Pop label which will be released on Valentine’s Day, February 14th. Sup Pop is also having a contest for those who missed out on getting tickets to the sold-out show at Johnny Brenda’s tomorrow night, February 10th.
