Zucchini is a squash for all seasons and a versatile vegetable that can be utilized in a wide variety of culinary delights including zucchini bread and muffins, zucchini pasta, zucchini chips and ratatouille. Now is the perfect time for Clevelanders to purchase some fresh, locally grown zucchini.
Zucchini lovers can pay tribute to the mighty vegetable at the 29th annual Zucchinifest in Obetz, Ohio (near Columbus) on Thursday, August 21, Friday, August 22, Saturday, August 23 and Sunday, August 24.
Zucchinifest Located in Obetz' Memorial Park, the 4-day, family-fun Zucchinifest gives visitors a chance to sample lots of zucchini food items and to try some unique zucchini treats like zucchini funnel cakes, zucchini fries and zucchini ice cream.
There will also be judging of the zucchinis (both food entries in the categories of Dessert and Zucchini Bread and non-food entries). Categories for the non-food entries include Biggest Zucchini (by weight), Smallest Zucchini (by weight), Most Unusual Zucchini and Best Dressed Zucchini.
Activities at Zucchinifest include a parade (Saturday at 11:30 a.m.), Queen and Princess pageants, a Cruise-in and Motorcycle Show (Friday at the Columbus Motor Speedway from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m.), arts & crafts, a magic show and Columbus Zoo animals will be on hand.
Live entertainment includes performances by David Lee Murphy (Saturday at 7 p.m.) and award-winniong country artist Travis Tritt (Saturday at 8:30 p.m.).
Hours for Zucchinifest are 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. on Thursday, 5 p.m. - 11 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. - 11 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Sunday. Admission and parking are free.
