You can savor the taste of burgers at Akron's National Hamburger Festival

It may not be cheeseburgers in paradise but there will be lots and lots of hamburgers in Akron at the 7th annual National Hamburger Festival being held on Saturday, August 9 and Sunday, August 10 at Lock 3 Park in downtown Akron. So if you are a Cleveland burger enthusiast you don't want to miss this salute to the All-Amercan hamburger, especially since Akron is only 30 miles from Cleveland (approximately a 40 minute drive).

National Hamburger Festival Over 20 area restaurants will be represented and will be competing at this 2-day family-friendly event that consists of one of the largest assortment of hamburgers ever assembled in one place.

Visitors will be able to sample and purchase a multitude of various versions of burgers for their palate's pleasure. Among the restaurants participating at the Hamburger Festival are Max & Erma's, Eat 'n Park, Menches Brothers, White Castle, the Midway OH Boy and the Steel Trolley Diner.

Burger-related activities include a Restaurant Burger Cook-Off, a Baby Burger competition, a Hamburger Eating Contest and a Fire & Vice Hamburger Throw Down featuring Akron Police members and Akron Firefighters.

One event you don't want to miss is the "Bobbing for Burgers" contest where participants try to pluck as many hamburgers as they can (with their mouths only) from a baby pool filled with ketchup in 3 minutes. The contest takes place on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Other activities include a Queen's pageant, Yancey's Fancy Cheesiest Couple contest, the Dennis George Variety Show and a Kids Zone with lots of fun things for the children to do.

There will be lots of free musical entertainment including performances by Separate Ways The Band - the Ultimate Tribute to the music of Journey, singers Ryan Humbert and Jim Gill, Bongo Joe & Steve-O Blues Duo and The Juke Hounds.

Hours for the National Hamburger Festival are noon - 11 p.m. on Saturday and noon - 7 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $5 per day. Children 8 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased at the Lock 3 gate both days. The Festival raises money each year for the Akron's Children's Hospital.
