You can look 5-10 years younger with resurfacing

Resurfacing might be right for you

From an interview with Lori Mitchell, RN.

If you want to reduce wrinkles and pock marks resurfacing may be the answer.

The treatment I am the most passionate about is the fractional non-ablative laser resurfacing. It is amazing. Clients look 5-10 years younger after completing a series of three of these treatments. Wrinkles are softened, tone and texture is improved, and elasticity is restored.

You can get resurfacing. The resurfacing laser will help soften those lines. It will stimulate your own body to produce collagen, break down those wrinkles and soften your skin. Resurfacing takes a series of three treatments spread out over three months for optimum results. You will start seeing the results immediately. Your skin will just look more supple and healthier. You will continue producing collagen for a year and a half.

Resurfacing is a laser treatment. It’s officially called non-ablative fractional resurfacing. The machine aestheticians use is a Palomar laser. The Palomar laser has five different hand pieces. One of them happens to be for resurfacing. It stimulates the collagen. Resurfacing and Botox are equally popular.

If you have pockmarks from teenage acne, resurfacing delivers phenomenal results. For the first treatment, your RN would do full face. Follow-up treatments after that would just target those areas with pock marks. It’s going to be anywhere from four to six treatments. It depends on how deep the marks are. I have seen improvement with ice pick scarring, from acne and many types of scarring. It is a process. It doesn’t happen overnight. Good things take time.

The hand piece delivers light in array of narrow, focused “microbeams,” to create columns of coagulation within the skin. These columns initiate a natural healing process that forms new, healthy tissue. This results in improved skin appearance.

You have to be patient. You will notice that your skin just feels better. You look so fresh. You won’t be as obsessed with the pockmarks while you’re going through the process. Good things take time.

Everything has potential side effects. That includes resurfacing

If you have a healing disorder of some sort, resurfacing may not be ideal. Resurfacing has a little bit of discomfort but I am comfortable recommending resurfacing for everyone.

Ethnicity does not matter with resurfacing. I have treated African-Americans without any complications. I have them come in, do a test area and assess them. If they didn’t have any complications, we moved forward. Just to be sure, I find a test area. I usually do a complete forehead. Most women have bangs. They can cover up the redness and the swelling. What I’m looking for is hyper-pigmentation or any issues with healing. I want to hear about it if anything unusual happens.

Typically I do resurfacing in the lowest setting possible. I get no complications whatsoever. I want to know how long your forehead was red. Remember…I’m using the lowest setting. Was it red for one day? Was it red for seven days? That will help guide me and the treatment plan.

The resurfacing feels like a little, hot needle poking you. That’s why you should numb the treatment area for an hour before the treatment. Some people will numb and some won’t. Everybody is different. Experienced RNs always treats their clients kindly. They make sure they’re nice and numb. Remember, it feels like a little, hot needle poking you. The benefits far outweigh the discomfort.

I give clients numbing cream during the consultation. They put it on an hour before the treatment time and then wash it off right before the treatment. It takes the edge off. Does it totally numb the face? No, but it does take the edge off. Some people are coming from work. They will apply it in the car and come in that way. Whatever works for them.

Want to know what resurfacing costs?

Resurfacing cost runs between $250 and $1200. Shop around and look for a) good price and b) an aesthetician you like.
