You can help raise Autism Awareness to the level of Understanding & Acceptance

If you’re a parent of a child challenged with Autism, you no doubt have your opinions. How. Why. What to do about it. You might be aware of different resources, the various organizations available for you, the difference in opinions of those same organizations. Other parents may have similar experiences, or they may different drastically. You are also no doubt familiar with the stares, the comments in the grocery store, the inevitable feeling that those around you have no idea who your child is, what makes her special or how much strength it takes for her to make it through a single day.

April is Autism Awareness Month...But April 2nd is Autism Awareness Day. This April 2nd, there is an opportunity for you to make a difference. This April 2nd, there is a call to help move the public’s Awareness of Autism to an Understanding and Acceptance of those challenged with Autism. This April 2nd, a number of organizations will be gathering together to share one voice with this purpose. The call is to write. Tell people what Autism means to you...to your child...to your family. Educate them. Share with them. Post this on your Facebook page, tweet it, send it to a friend, copy and hand it out to neighbors, teachers, friends and family.

You can participate. It’s not too late. For more information or to get additional ideas of what you can do, visit the Autism Understanding and Awarenss Facebook Fan Page.

Tomorrow, I will post an interview with Stuart Duncan, one of the thousands of participants of this world wide event on the National Special Needs Parents Examiner Page.
