You and your furry friends are invited to come out and enjoy the Paws in the Park hike series this August in the Metro Parks. This will be the first dog-friendly hike series put on by the Friends of Metro Parks and Commit to be Fit, and it will take place on Saturdays in August. Each of the 2-mile walks will begin at 9 a.m. and last approximately one hour. Treats for human and canine participants will be provided by Giant Eagle.
The Paws in the Park schedule is:
- August 4, Highbanks. Meet at the Dragonfly Day Camp.
- August 11, Glacier Ridge. Meet at the Picnic Area Parking Lot.
- August 18, Blendon Woods. Meet at the Nature Center Parking Lot.
- August 25, Prairie Oaks. Meet at Darby Bend Lakes.
The Prairie Oaks walk on August 25 will end just in time for WAG! Fest, an entire day full of fun for the two- and four-legged members of your family.
This hike series is an excellent chance for dog owners to come out and enjoy the Metro Parks with their pets. Thirteen of the Metro Parks have dog trails, both Scioto Audubon and Three Creeks have fenced dog parks, and both Battelle Darby Creek and Prairie Oaks have dog swimming areas. Not only are the Metro Parks a great place to get out and enjoy a bit of nature in Columbus, but they are a great place to get out and enjoy some time with your dog as well.
Correction: Earlier versions of this story incorrectly attributed the sponsorship of this event to the Metro Parks. Paws in the Park is the work of Friends of Metro Parks, an all-volunteer organization that works to "advocate the value of parks and open spaces for individual and community social, physical, economic, and spiritual well-being, and the importance of securing the vitality of Metro Parks and its programs in perpetuity."
