According to a report from Games Industry today, Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida said that he couldn’t say on when or if the PS Vita TV would make its way to the West.

The Sony boss did, however, explain that the popularity of the PS Vita in Japan made the Japanese market more suitable for the release of the PS Vita TV.

“The market situation is very different between Japan and the Western market in terms of whether it's a portable market, whether it's a console market, especially the situation with Vita in Japan right now is quite healthy,” Yoshida said.

Yoshida said Sony had to be careful with its messaging and targeting in terms of PS Vita TV because they did not want to go global with just one flat message.

“We'll tailor our message and focus first on the Japanese market where the Vita is most active,” Yoshida said.

The healthy PS Vita market in Japan is due to the selection of games available and the demand for certain titles in the market, Yoshida said, and it has nothing to do with gamers preferring portable or console.

And in Japan right now, Yoshida said, portable titles are more popular as opposed to big console releases in the West like GTA V.

“If people see the games that they want to play, they'll probably go and purchase that hardware whether it's portable or console,” Yoshida said.

PS Vita TV will launch in Asian markets come January 2014.
