'Yoshi's New Island' launch event at NYC Nintendo World

On Saturday, March 15, 2014, Nintendo hosted a launch event for their favorite green dinosaur pal Yoshi. The event, which took place from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Nintendo World store located in Rockefeller Plaza, centered around Yoshi and his new game on the 3DS called "Yoshi's New Island."

The Nintendo World Store was all about celebrating Yoshi's newest 3DS game on March 15, 2014.

Inside the Nintendo World store were a great amount of green and white balloons, as well as Yoshi themed activities for all the guests attending to participate in. There was a bean bag toss activity aptly named "Big Beanies Bean Bag Toss" after one of the enemies in the new game, as well as a Yoshi matching game with cards donning the Yoshi egg on their backs.

Fans were given an activity card upon entering the event informing them of the chance to win a prize from Yoshi's Egg-Cellent Egg Drop machine (a vending machine with Yoshi and Baby Mario on the front) by competing in both activities and receiving a stamp after doing so.

I went to the event with my brother and when we got to the front of the matching game line things got interesting. The Nintendo World employees running the game asked us if we wanted to compete against one another. We told them yes and were told of special rules to compete, including only using our left hand (we're both righties) to pick up the cards, all while hopping on one foot the entire time. It was hands down the most fun I've had playing a card matching game.

After we got our two stamps we headed to the Egg-Cellent Egg Drop machine and received our tokens for a chance to receive a prize. Unfortunately we both came out as losers, but were still given a piece of bubble gum for our participation.

There were also some freebies given out at the table at the front of the store which included two different Yoshi coloring sheets and crayons, as well as mini posters of the new game, which was being demoed on the 2DS and 3DS systems they had on display. The limited Yoshi Edition 3DS XL was also being sold for all those Yoshi fans interested in picking one up.

One thing is for certain, last Saturday Yoshi fans from across the U.S. gathered together, in what was seen as one of the greatest parties in Yoshi's name that this examiner has seen.

"Yoshi's New Island" is now available for purchase for the MSRP of $39.99 worldwide and is a sequel to the highly acclaimed Super Nintendo game "Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island."
