Yosemite Half Dome Cables Webinar

                                                        CALL TO ACTION

One of the best hikes in the world is the 11-hour, 16-mile, RT trek to the top of California’s Half Dome at Yosemite National Park. It is the ultimate for hikers. Regardless of where you live, you have a date this Friday at 1 pm Pacific time. The National Park Service is hosting a live webinar dedicated to answering YOUR questions about the 2012 permit lottery plan and the Half Dome Trail Stewardship Plan Environmental Assessment. One proposed alternative is to take the cables down. I’ll repeat: take the cables down!  We can’t let that happen. Since 1919 when they were erected, tens of thousands of people have realized their goal of sumitting.

This is not an open house. No, there will be no long formal presentation or room full of people on site. Plan on about 3-4 key managers in an office. There will be a facilitator just to keep things going. This will be ALL HALF DOME. If you give a plug nickel about the cables, you must show your interest.

I’ve gotten to know several of the rangers involved and they are really trying to balance many concerns.  There will be opportunities to ask the Wilderness Manager and project managers questions about the plan and the 2012 interim permit system. About 25 people have registered – let’s jam the circuits!
