Yooper Teez & Things online proprietor, Cassie McCormick-Morgis of Marquette Michigan, is considering breaking away from the far-reaching internet and planting roots with a brick and mortar presence in the Metro-Marquette area. McCormick-Morgis, along with husband, write slogans and photograph for an Upper Peninsula of Michigan themed, online, third-party expedited T shirt shop that she operates.
When asked how McCormick-Morgis originated the concept, Cassie said, “One evening, sitting around a campfire with my husband, we were discussing the sometimes humorous odd mannerisms of the inhabitants in the U.P., -including ourselves- and the unique Upper Peninsula of Michigan culture that we have here.” “Henceforth, the name Yooper Teez; as in teasing, moniker.”
McCormick-Morgis went on to say, “Even with the U.P. demographic appeal of such being small, we decided to seek-out a third-party purveyor that could possibly offer a big online persona, as to enable us to reach that small demographic, or that of ex-residents that now reside elsewhere, perhaps”.
Cassie added, “We discovered Cafe Press and learned that they could do exactly what we wanted to do. However, recently we have faced some growing pains since our online inception in 2010 with Cafe Press and wish to cut-out the middle-man (Cafe Press), lowering our over-head as well, and in turn, give something back to the Upper Peninsula, by investing in our own equipment, possibly allowing us to add a small employee base, utilizing a retail presence.”
Giving back has been a pleasant commonality of McCormick-Morgis's nature. Since her online inception, back in 2010 at Cafe Press, one of her first inaugural designs was the Desert Camo t shirt dedicated to those who have unselfishly served these United States of America, over in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria, where all profits go to the Wounded Warrior Project. The Desert Camo t shirt is Made in the USA.
For those whom may not be familiar with the geographic location of the U.P.; the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is the mass of land above the mitten-shaped landmass of the State of Michigan below, which is connected by the Mackinac Bridge. Marquette Michigan, where McCormick-Morgis resides, hopes to bring a physical retail location to the downtown Marquette area to cater to the locals as well as capitalizing on the seasonal tourist trade with some of Yooper Teez & Things more popular t shirt designs, slogans and photography, replicated onto t shirts.
Some of the most popular slogans and designs Yooper Teez & Things has to offer are the Diver Down U.P. T shirt, God creating and breathing life into the U.P. T shirt, the Yin Yang U.P. t shirt, the I'm with Yooper maternity top, the Yooper Riviera t shirt line, and their photographs of Upper Peninsula of Michigan native species of tree bark, such as Birch bark, Red Pine, Autumn Leaves and U.P. Sunset integrated onto t shirts.
McCormick-Morgis said she plans on investigating as to what the Lake Superior Community Partnership & the Marquette Chamber of Commerce has to offer her in her possible expansion plans for Yooper Teez & Things.
