YONKERS, NY -- Regional restaurateur Peter Kelly is among those coming to the financial rescue of the 17th annual Riverfest, a local day of free entertainment that had been threatened by municipal budget cutbacks.
The event, sponsored by the Downtown Waterfront Business Improvement Diistrict (BID), is scheduled for Saturday, September 12. It is expected to draw about 30,000 people to the waterfront.
Kelly’s X20 Xaviars on the Hudson restaurant and Regency Extended Care, the region’s largest nursing facility, are among the major new sponsors this year.
BID Executive Director Steve Sansone said, “We are heartened by the strong show of support from sponsors especially during these difficult times when municipalities throughout the nation have been forced to make cuts in services and programs to help close their budget gaps.”
Kelly, a native of Yonkers, said, “Anything like the very popular Riverfest that brings people to discover the Yonkers Waterfront is a win for everyone. We are happy to be part of it.”
Kelly is the founder of Xaviars Restaurant Group, which owns and operates Xaviars at Piermont and the adjacent Freelance Wine Bar & Café, Restaurant X and Bully Boy Bar in Congers, and X2O Xaviars on the Hudson here.
