Yonkers Cold Case Unit makes arrest in connection with 2004 death

Marie McSweeney was killed when an object, hurled from the overpass above the Sprain Brook Parkway in Yonkers, smashed her windshield while she was driving.

That was back on April 24, 2004.

Nine years later, the Yonkers police have arrested Alberto Plasencia, a 26-year-old Yonkers resident, in connection with McSweeney’s death, said Detective Lt. Patrick McCormack. Plasencia is being charged with second-degree murder, said McCormack.

Detective John Geiss of the Yonkers Police Department Cold Case Unit led the investigation that ultimately ended in the arrest, said McCormack.

The Yonkers police will be working with the Westchester County District Attorney’s office, and therefore cannot release any more details because there will be future court proceedings and an ongoing investigation, said McCormack.
