Yoko Ono talk at SXSW Friday was fun for both of them, interviewer says

Disc jockey Jody Denberg, who interviewed Yoko Ono at SXSW Friday morning, told us in a brief chat the talk was definitely something to hear.

"It just went great. It was really fun," he said on the phone from Austin, Texas. "Yoko thought it went great. She was happy."

He said the crowd enjoyed it, too. "My wife and mom were both there and they said that they thought the crowd was really into it."

The event, expected to be one of the highlights of the festival, opened with a 12-minute movie. Then, Denberg talked with Ono for roughly an hour on a variety of subjects, including John Lennon's wilder guitar playing on her records ("He was trying to compete with my voice") and her concern about the earthquake victims in Japan. Other than making a joke about how long it took to get the Beatles to iTunes, Denberg says the discussion was about Ono.

He says she ended the event giving him a hug and saying, 'That went great.' "

Also in the audience was photographer Bob Gruen, who has taken many iconic pictures of both John Lennon and Yoko Ono in the past.

In addition to the interview, Ono will perform at 1 a.m. Saturday -- a time Denberg says she chose -- as part of Chimera Music Night at The Elysium. Also on stage will be son Sean Lennon.
