Yoko Ono has donated 5 million Japanese yen or 2.5 million Philippine pesos (roughly $54,000 USD) to help the victims of Tropical Storm Ondoy, which devastated the Philippines last September last year, reports GMA.TV.
A statement issued by Yoko Ono said “[Ono] learned about the very severe and continuing conditions of the 'Ondoy' victims and decided to take action. As a mother herself, she feels deep sympathy and love for suffering children.”
Ono has roots in the Philippines. She grew up in the Fujimi manor that is now the location of the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo. It was built by Ono’s uncle.
“The Fujimi residence is very close to my heart and I consider it my home sweet home in Japan. I am therefore very grateful to the Philippine government for maintaining the house in a good condition all these years,” she said in the statement.
Ono visited the Embassy in Fujimi, Tokyo before Christmas and pledged the donation, the Embassy said in a statement.
Over 40 people were killed after the storm hit the country last September. The flooding was called the capitol's worst in over 42 years.

How does $54,000 qualify as a "huge" donation? More like a "drop in the bucket"? I mean, good for her for giving something but this is not a "huge" amount of money -- to Yoko, anyway.
Hey What? How much did you donate, that much money will go a long way to help the poor in the Philippines. The Philippines are a very poor country, I would hope you'd hope that the money doesn't get stolen by some corrupt politicians there and will go to help the poor...Peace Brother... anything helps.
What?, I knew that comment would be coming as soon as I read the headline. I agree with and second Rock Singers comments. I'd like to add that What?'s remarks confirm what I've said here so often: Whatever Yoko does or says, she'll be attacked. It's sickening that she can actually donate 2.5 million Phillipine pesos to the country and be attacked for that. She could have given nothing.
I didn't attack her. I said good for her for giving something. But $54,000 is NOT a "huge" amount of money, given that she made millions this year. It's chump change for her, and thus not deserving of the description "huge."
I think "What?" is commenting more on the "huge" wording in the article. It's great that Yoko is helping with the disaster relief. If she had given $10,000 that would be awesome... but I agree; "Huge" it ain't.

WHAT? AND REAYX5 - Amazing comments, just amazing. You're wrong and I'm right - infinity, no take-backs, the end.
Ha. You're cute when you're mad. $54,000 is still a nice donation. But it ain't "huge."
That must be the montly sum she received, royalty-wise, for John's Beef Jerky song.
In behalf of my countrymen, Ms. Yoko thank you very much for your donation. Your good and kind deed will help many less fortunate Filipinos. May you be bless more by our good God.
