Yogurt fights for your health. It is known for it's lactobacterial or acidophilus (the name you see on the container of yogurt) which fights harmful bacteria in the colon that might cause disease.

- It is easier to digest than milk.
- It is a rich source of calcium.
- It increases the absorption of calcium and the B-Vitamins.
- Yogurt may give our immune systems better ability to ward off toxins.
- Yogurt is beneficial for yeast infections. Note: It is an misconception that applying yogurt topically will reduce the infection. PLEASE, eat the yogurt and enjoy the other benefits as well.
- It is a good source of protein. In a 6 oz cup of yogurt, the protein typically is 14 grams.
- It may lower cholesterol by binding bile acids.
Look for yogurt which contains live active cultures and not "heat treated". Heat treating or pasteurization kills the live cultures. It may last longer, but who cares since the nutritional values are greatly reduced.
Interesting fact about people who don't like the taste of yogurt: Some people, approximately 15% of the population are thiourea tasters. This means they detect the bitterness in foods, such as in yogurt. For these people, the yogurts with artificial sweeteners seem to do the trick. But don't try to get them to eat plain yogurt!

*Local Shopping: You can find Chobani yogurts at area grocery stores. Hannafords in Washington Mills usually has a wide variety of flavors. Price Chopper on Commercial Drive in New Hartford carries limited flavors and container sizes.

- 1 cup white whole wheat flour (regular whole wheat flour is acceptable)
- 1/2 tsp Baking soda
- 1 tsp Baking powder
- 1 egg
- 1 cup reduced fat milk
- 6 oz Chobani Raspberry Non Fat Yogurt – fruit on the bottom.
NOTE: These may be made into “over night pancakes” by mixing up the batter then cooking the pancakes the following morning. The result: Fantastic! and it saves time.
Mix dry ingredients together then make a well in the center. Add the egg, milk, and yogurt and stir all together. Mix well.
Heat a greased grill pan on medium high and let cook first side until bubbles form on the top. Flip and cook an additional minute or two more (until brown on the bottom).
Optional suggested topping: Heat about 1/4 cup of frozen raspberries, add 1/2 tsp orange zest and 2 tsp 100% Maple syrup. Pour on top of the pancakes. Add a dollop of yogurt.
