We are on the threshold of spring. In the science of yoga, its ayurvedic limb, the study of health through food, suggests a spring detox. Our ability to absorb the nutrients in food depends on our ability to digest and eliminate food from the gut.
A detox restores our ability to eat and enjoy food by boosting our 'agni', the ability to digest and eliminate. Our five senses are drawn into the process of eating. A detox is a time to reset our senses, clean them out and start over. Food is a visual pleasure, a sensual experience, and a taste panacea.
With and enhanced ability to digest food, our immune systems are boosted, too. Many people report that after a detox, their allergy systems disappear, their bodily fatigue is lifted and they can think more clearly.
Even a short detox can improve our agni, enliven our senses, give us more energy for living fully. A cleanse can also improve our emotional balance.
Spring is a chance to clear our inner fields and plant new seeds of growth. We move away from heavier food, and enjoy the fresh early crops of spring vegetables and eat with the seasonal changes in food.
