Repeated studies have found that yoga can ease back pain. A chance to experience this first hand and develop a personal, safe, home practice comes Tuesday, June 7, at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of Los Angeles.
To back pain sufferers, just thinking about a yoga pose may bring up images of more pain. In fact, not just any yoga class will help. It takes an approach of individual modifications of supported poses. Iyengar yoga takes a methodical approach using props and mindful movement to relieve pain and to help students achieve back health that can prevent future problems.
Lisa Walford, a Senior Intermediate level certified Iyengar teacher, will teach four sessions that will enable students to develop a safe sequence for home practice. The class will help students understand how to use Iyengar yoga both to relieve symptoms and to prevent problems or recurrences.
Lisa is a founding member of the Iyengar Yoga Therapeutics Group and is on the advisory council for the International Association of Yoga Therapy.
