Yoda gets his own film in new 'Star Wars' spin-off

When Disney bought Lucasfilm and gained the rights to the entire “Star Wars” universe, they also announced that they would be creating several spin-off films. One of them, announced today, is a spin-off film centered around Yoda. This was originally reported by Scott Harris for Next Movie on Feb. 5.

As told to Ain’t It Cool News, out of all the possibilities, Yoda is the first charactaer that Disney is going to pursue for his own film. “To start with, they're going to focus on established characters and do solo films," AICN's Harry Knowles said. "The first Stand Alone film is going to center upon Yoda. At this stage specifics are sparse, but Kathleen Kennedy is putting together a 'Star Wars' slate."

There had been rumors that a Jabba the Hutt-centered film was in the works, and while that may still be the case, looks like Yoda got there first.

There is a lot that can be done with the Yoda character, since he was roughly 900 years old when he was introduced in “The Empire Strikes Back.” The film could focus on anything from his early life, induction and learning as a Jedi, to random battles and trials he faced throughout his career.

This also sets up a lot of questions as to what else Disney can do with side-stories for the “Star Wars” universe. There’s an entire expanded universe created around the films, and, as Harris outlines jokingly, other films could be “The origin of Salacious Crumb,” “the story of the Millennium Falcon making the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs,” and, most disturbingly, “Jar Jar Binks: The Untold Story.”
