Yeti bear may be the correct name for the mysterious Big-Foot like creature called a Yeti, which is fabled to live in the Himalaya Mountains. A New discover suggest that the Yeti may not be a fable after all, as a scientist has found a match for the hair that a hunter claimed came from a Yeti, according to the Telegraph on October 17.
The scientist refers to the finding as a Yeti bear because it is a perfect DNA match for a creature that roamed the earth as far back as 120,000-years-ago.
Research Professor Bryan Sykes found a match after making a comparison of the hair of what a hunter claimed was a Yeti, which was found about 40 years-ago. He compared this to a creature whose genomes are stored in a data base from an ancient jaw bone, an ancient polar bear.
The DNA from that jaw bone dates back at least 40,000 years and possibly as far back as 120,000 years. He also had a sample of hair that filmmakers found about 10-years ago, also believed to be hair from a Yeti. Sykes believe what people are calling the Yeti or Abominable Snow Man today is a decedent of this ancient polar bear.
Sykes, an Oxford University professor, said that “We have found an exact match between two samples from the Himalayas and the ancient polar bear.” Eye witnesses provided the only evidence that a Yeti exist to date. Now there’s a hair match. So it looks like the Yeti is a descendant of an ancient polar bear, looking very different from what bears look like today and quite possibly much more aggressive!
