Once again, the Yerman 5K Run was a huge success with over 300 participants. This is a great event if you are new to running competitively or thrill at every running challenge you can enter. There were people of all ages running this morning. Not only was the top three competitive men and women runners recognized but also the top three in the different age categories.
Eric Yerman was a local law enforcement officer who tragically passed away after 13 miles of a 14 mile training exercise in October 2005. He had great love for the Gainesville community and was very competitive. This run is in his honor to benefit the Friends of Children of North Central Florida to build a group foster home in Lacrosse, Florida to benefit children in Alachua, Marion, Dixie, Levy, and Gilchrist counties.
Congratulations go out to everyone who finished the race.
Top three competitive finishers for men:
- Chris Chichi 18:10
- Josh Horn
- Jonathon Turner
Top three competitive finishers for women:
- Erica Taltos 19:13
- Andrea Gardener
- Sally Chapel
So how did our winners prepare for this race? Erica Taltos says she runs 9-10 miles a day around the University of Florida. Most running books will tell you to train double the distance you plan to run in an event especially if you are training for a duathlon or triathlon.
