Outraged Yemenis have staged protests against US drone attacks, according a report by Press TV on Aug. 18, 2013. In the northern city of Sa’ada people in Yemen have staged a demonstration against US assassination drone attacks in the country. The protesters have taken to the streets to condemn the deadly US operations, and they say that the airstrikes violate the sovereignty of Yemen.
Ever since early August the CIA-run drone strikes have increased, with figures showing that about 50 people have been killed in several provinces across Yemen. In a recent incident at least two people were killed after a US drone targeted a car in the southern province of Shabwa. The United States has been using its assassination drones to hit targets in Yemen, as well as Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Somalia.
Fars News Agency has also reported Yemenis are protesting against US terror drones. Demonstrations against US terror drone attacks have spread from Sa’ada to other cities, including Dhamar, Hajja and Eb Yemen. Washington insists the CIA drones target only militants, but international human rights groups have said the facts on the ground indicate that civilians are also frequently killed in the drone attacks. Critics of these US drone strikes say many impoverished and frightened people in Yemen and elsewhere are being driven to join the Al Qaeda terrorist group to get even with the United States for these attacks.
