Last Friday, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West threw the social media world for a loop when their presence on the new April issue of Vogue was revealed. Celebrities and media crazed maniacs around the world took to the Twitter universe expressing their bewilderment on the choice cover. Sarah Michelle Gellar wrote, “Well...I guess I'm canceling my Vogue subscription. Who is with me?” Seth Rogan and James Franco spoofed the cover as well as a Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy rendition. Quite funny, nonetheless.
I'm definitely no Vogue expert except that I do know people don't think Kim Kardashian and Kanye West deserve to grace the cover. Vogue represents upscale clothing, a bible for designers and fashionistas alike. I can understand why it's an accomplishment for an artist (using term loosely) to land a front cover on the worlds most prestigious magazine, but to flip a shit because K squared scored the cover? Much bigger things to worry about in today's world.
The most confusing aspect of this entire “frenzy” on social media is because of social media and avid reality television show fanatics "keeping up" with their every move is the reason these two are laughing at the world on Vogue. What some people don't seem to comprehend is while Kim Kardashian might be famous for leaking a sex tape and consistently making 'Keeping up with the Kardashians' a hit for E!, she's actually a smart business woman. Along with multi-million dollar endorsements and a lucrative clothing line, Kim Kardashian continues to work hard in multiple facets of the industry and doesn't mind the backlash she receives from the microscopic viewers who made her famous in the first place. We made this couple the most talked about people in the world, so it should come as no surprise that they are on the cover of Vogue. We've seen this family fart, have sex, give birth and actually represent normal qualities of humans around the world, so who cares if they are on a magazine cover? They're obviously doing something right.
Reality television can get such a bad rap from people who think it's not reality. It might not be your reality, but for them it is. I can bet that if there was never a 'Keeping up with the Kardashians' or infamous sex tape exposed, she would be looked at in a different light and landing on the cover with a brilliant musical artist would be no big deal. Since the world has watched Kardashian grow up in front of the camera's, she's only seen as a bored, Los Angeles princess who hit the jackpot with her booty and a Ryan Seacrest deal. Just because Kim Kardashian isn't an Academy Award winner or Grammy collector shouldn't automatically throw her in the ranks of the Honey Boo Boos or Paris Hilton's of the world. Kim Kardashian and the entire Kardashian/Jenner clan have created an empire for themselves and landing on the cover of Vogue is just another day and another dollar that adds to their impressive resume of accomplishments.
