Yeardley Love: A case of anger, alcohol, and now Adderall

The tragic story of Yeardley Love has taken a different turn, one in which Adderall is involved.  It is a drug widely used on college campuses.  The defense of George Huguely V is requesting medical records because a private pathologist is claiming that she died as a result of complicating factors from using Adderall; thus in disagreement with the medical examiner. The drug was found in her system and in her backpack.

The Washington Post reported: " A Charlottesville judge ruled Wednesday morning that the medical records of Yeardley Love, a former University of Virginia women's lacrosse player who was slain in May, will remain sealed until he reviews them and determines whether they are relevant.

"During a hearing Wednesday in Charlottesville General District Court, the city's commonwealth's attorney argued against a motion filed by George Huguely V's attorneys to access her medical records from U-Va.'s departments of student health and athletics.

"Huguely, 22, of Chevy Chase, who also played lacrosse at U-Va., is charged with first-degree murder in Love's May 3 death.

"Huguely's attorneys argued that those records are necessary for an expert's review of her cause of death, while the prosecutor argued that the request for four years or more of Love's medical records is too broad."The Washington Post

Herbert D. Kleber, MD, Columbia University, Deptment of Psychiatry, Division on Substance Abuse says that prescription opioid abuse is the fastest-growing drug problem in the nation. It has already surpassed marijuana in many places in America and it is affecting teens misusing medications such as the amphetamine Adderall and methylphenidate Ritalin for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorders (ADHD).

As I reported earlier: For Yeardley Love, a young Lacross player, her former boyfriend's alcoholism turned into deadly violence. As noted in People: University of Virginia Lacrosse Player Yeardley Love Laid to Rest

Yeardley Love  apparently broke up with her boyfriend, also a lacross player, and he admitted turning violent.

While all the facts are not in on the case, what we have learned is that he had issues with alcoholism and killed her -- yet another case of domestic violence.
