Year in review: Yarnorama's colorways of the month for 2013

Every month spinners look forward to seeing what Yarnorama owner and fiber artist Susan Fricks will dye as her colorway of the month. Fricks regularly posts photos of the braids in the store's Ravelry group, and they can be purchased either in the store in Paige, or ordered online.

The end of December marks the end of another full year of colorways of the month. Last year's review saw a whole rainbow of colors celebrating the store's fifth year in business. 2013 was just as colorful, and also included some new blends of fiber to keep spinner's fingers soft. June's blend of 50% alpaca with 30% Merino wool and 20% silk was luxuriously soft with a bit of sheen, while the spooky Ghools and Goblins for October was 85% Polwarth and 15% silk. Familiar fibers found a new blend in the final colorway of this year with Hot and Cold's superwash BFL and nylon.

Inspiration for the colorways ranged from the calm grays of Simply Serene in April to September's aptly named Chaos, inspired by the construction zone that was her dye kitchen when they added nearly 200 square feet to it. Food was a common inspiration, from the Roasted Sweet Corn of summer for July represented in bright yellows and splashes of green to just last month with Pie Season, a blend of berry purples and a touch of brown crust.
