This year there were a variation of styles that reached the top of the trends creating a buzz feed of admires and critics alike. The common thread for style and beauty trends for 2013? the unexpected.
There were a few unique and unexpected styles that were tops including novelty clutches a la Charlotte Olympia and adorn ear cuffs.
Beauty took similar cues from the same playbook with the out of the box orange lips that trended heavily for the Fall/Winter. Here is a round-up of the trends that defined beauty and style for 2013.
Unique Clutches. Clutches that infused a bit of weird, blunt and artisan were among the leading accessory trends this year. From Charlotte Olympia's novel clutch to Jil Sander's lunch bag clutch, you couldn't escape the lure of the unconventional clutch this year.
Lucite. As clear as day, or maybe it's the fact that you're so transparent I can see right through you--style wise of course! Lucite was a huge hit for the Spring/Summer this year with everyone practically manicuring, trimming and cropping every inch of themselves for curious gazing underneath.
Holographic. First thing comes to mind when reviewing this trend, out of this world. There really is a celestial element to the holographic trend that ran a muck this year. Perhaps its the galaxy benefactor or the star like glow, whatever it is was one of the trends this year worth giving a shot.
Tartan. Looks like the Scottish were serving up the Brits some stiff competition this season. Move over London flag, the tartan invasion was seen all over the runways this year and on plenty of street style captions making it a instant style sensation.
Ear Cuffs. Adorning ears where a cool and exotic spin to the gaudy accessories that where a fan favorite this year. Ear cuffs were among the unique jewelry pieces topping the accessories trends, and with its intricate detailing it easily caught our attention. Although we doubt it will take overt the realms of standard earrings.
Orange Lips. Bright and bold citrus styled lips believe it or not where a popular look this year. The lips were spotted on celebs such as Zooey Deschanel, Agynes Deyn and Jessica Alba. It was also a beauty trend that was well worn in-between seasons without missing a beat, a coral based orange was popular for the Spring/Summer while orange lipsticks with red undertones where a standout for the Fall/Winter.
Ombre Hair. The ombre look was everywhere you turned this year. The two toned style was trending throughout the year with celebs such as Sandra Bullock, Rihanna and Sofia Vegarra embracing the trend. Ombre can be classified as a more updated version of highlights, and therefore will probably be around much longer than you think.
Mink Lashes. Falsies have always been on trend, however, this year a more posh and glamorous set where gracing eyes. Mink lashes were a highly covetable accessory for beauty addicts this year largely due to its ability in providing picture perfect eyes.
Short Hair. For 2012 it was long hair, don't care (with a strategically placed part down the middle) this year it's short hair, go there. Shorter hairstyles, particularly the bob and pixie cut, where apart of a hair frenzy seeing nearly every celeb sporting a cropped due including Jennifer Lawrence, Charlize Theron, Pamela Anderson and Miley Cyrus. There hasn't been a popularity this big for short hair since the early 90's when the bob and pixie where standard.
