12-month Xbox LIVE Gold cards are still hovering around $40 at multiple retailers but Newegg added something new to $20 price cut on Friday to sweeten the pot a little.

The retailer has the 12-month Xbox LIVE Gold Membership marked down to $39.99 with a free $5 Xbox gift card added to spend on the Xbox Store for either the Xbox 360 or Xbox One. Both the membership and the gift card are codes that will be emailed instantly after purchase and can be redeemed either on the consoles or on Xbox.com.

Meanwhile, competing retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, Microsoft Store and Walmart all have the 12-month Xbox LIVE Gold Membership on sale for $39.99 as well but don't have the extra $5 gift card.

An Xbox LIVE Gold subscription is needed to access online multiplayer on both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One along with entertainment apps such as Hulu Plus and Netflix.
