Year of the black water snake

Feb. 10, 2013 is Chinese New Year and this year is the year of the Snake. The Chinese five element astrology calendar shows that 2013 is the year of Water Snake. The color of water in the five elements system is black. This means that 2013 is the year of the Black Snake, Water Snake or Black Water Snake, depending on how you want to say it.

In Chinese Astrology there is a balance theory of five elements. Each of the animals of the Chinese Zodiac can be converted into five elements. Snake is mainly associated with the element of fire. It is also associated with metal and earth. The year of 2013 is associated with water, the water of 2013 and the fire of Snake are opposite elements. This means that this year will be backed with a good mix of events that are both opposite and equal.

Generally, Snake is a calm, shy, cautious and low-key creature in the Chinese Zodiac. Its not likely to attack its opponent, unless it's severely disturbed or hungry. If fire is not your favorite element, then it may be a good idea for you to keep your distance from fire this year.

The Snake is the 6th animal in the Chinese Zodiac. Six being an even number, is a Yin or female animal. However, the Snake corresponds with male fire, male metal and male earth. Like many people born in the year of the Snake the Snake looks soft but is tough on the inside. The male energy of metal in the Snake is special in that metal's mother element is earth and earth's mother element is fire.
