Year of Luigi products will carry over to 2014

It was announced during a Nintendo Direct back on Valentine's Day that this year would be all about Luigi. Fans of Mr. L will be happy to learn that the Year of Luigi could not be contained within 2013 alone. When talking to Siliconera during an interview that was posted yesterday, President of Nintendo America, Reggie Fils-Aime, elaborated on what fans of Mario's shadow can expect to see next year.

There are some Year of Luigi activities that will continue into 2014 – including some of the special products that we've launched (the Luigi remote and the Mario and Luigi 3DS XL) – so there will be some Luigi products to carry the Luigi banner into the next calendar year.

Now, this may not be terribly exciting. All Reggie basically just stated was that Nintendo won't rush to remove all Luigi products from shelves and burn them in a pit once the ball drops on New Year's Eve. As for the “activities” Reggie mentioned, we wonder if perhaps Luigi will be given more special treatment leading up to the end of the fiscal year. There's also the issue of whether or not Nintendo will put another character in the spotlight next year and who that may be.
