Year-End Round-Up 2013

Although there is still some time to go before December 31, it's time to compile a round-up of some of the highlights from this column in 2013.

When I look back over all the posts I wrote and published here from the second half of 2013, these five stand out for me.

The Power of Job Search Support Groups (December 9, 2013) Have you ever wondered why there are so many job search support groups around? Or conversely, have you ever wondered why there is no job search support group close to where you live?

On the Value of Giving (November 27, 2013) There is a quote from Zig Ziglar that every job hunter must know: "You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want." Experts in networking have always preached that the secret to effective networking is.....

Lessons from the Shutdown (October 10, 2013) You know how some words suddenly zoom up the ladder of discourse and become the word du jour? The word that is on everyone's tongue right now is negotiation.....

Lessons from Breaking Bad (October 4, 2013) Why was this TV show such a hit? Walter White was no hero, certainly not in a conventional sense. What can we learn from him.....

Eight Hacks for Today's Job Seeker (September 19, 2013) There is a recent college graduate who I have been coaching. While he wants some help, he is resistant to it at the same time....

I've been writing this Newark Job Search column since May of 2010, helping job hunters in New Jersey since 2007 via the St. Matthias Employment Ministry, and writing about change and transition since I started blogging in 2004.

One of the fruits of all this activity has been my first book, called To Your Success, published in 2012 in paper, and on Kindle this year.

What else is there to say? Probably quite a bit more. So I hope you are finding value in this column. Stop by next year for more. Let me know what you think. And thanks for reading!
