Flowers are a traditional gift on Valentine's day. But instead of giving them in the form of bouquets, crafters can present a fresh braid of fiber with Yarnorama's February colorway of the month in their hand-dyed FiberObsessions yarn and fiber.
With the wave of wet weather in the hill country, Austinites can already see flowers starting to pop up on the drive to the Paige yarn store. But inside, spring is in full bloom with 'Crocus and Tulips'. Deep purples and golds intermingle in a rich and royal color combination.
This colorway is also on a new fiber base called Cheviot. With a medium micron count, this wool has a longer staple that makes it great for beginners, particularly because it is resistant to felting, no matter how much you handle it as you get used to the motions. For those for whom spinning is second nature, Cheviot wool is durable and has a little extra sheen to lend to the finished piece of knitwear. Owner Susan Fricks recommends socks, sweaters, vests, and hats, as possible projects that would be perfect with this fiber.
Each 4 oz braid is $15, available in the store, or you can call at (512) 253-0100 to have a braid set aside or mailed to you. Whether it's a gift for a spinning sweetie, or a valentine for yourself, FiberObsessions has your new favorite for February.
