Houston Rockets center Yao Ming, 30, may retire after the 2011 NBA season if he does not fully recover from a lingering foot injury.
Ming missed the 2010 season due to his injury, and the Rockets missed the playoffs.
Yao Ming recently held a charity basketball event in China, which benefitted the Yao Ming Foundation.
The fundraiser was attended by other NBA players such as Brandon Jennings of the Milwaukee Bucks, Hasheem Thabeet of the Memphis Grizzlies, DaJuan Summers of the Detroit Pistons and Amir Johnson of the Toronto Raptors.
While Yao Ming has participated in scrimmages, he will not play when the NBA players face off against a mix of top Chinese and Taiwanese players.
Said Yao:
I'm 30. As an athlete, I am not the future of China basketball anymore.
