Houston Rockets center Yao Ming’s wife Ye Li gave birth to a seven-pound, nine-ounce baby girl on Friday, May 20.
The Mings did not release the name of the baby.
"I am very excited about the arrival of our daughter," Yao Ming said in a statement.
"This is a very special moment in our lives and we thank everyone for their kindness and support."
Yao Ming stands at seven-foot-six and his wife, Ye Li, is a former basketball player who stands at six-foot-two. Many in China have speculated that the two would produce a future basketball star.

The baby will be an American citizen since she was born in the U.S., a matter that stirred some controversy among Chinese authorities - some of whom pulled for "Baby Yao" to be born in China.
Yao's baby could claim Chinese citizenship as the child of Chinese nationals. However, Chinese law does not recognize dual citizenship, according to the Associated Press.
