On Saturday, May 21st, Yao Ming made the following statement on his Facebook page:

Happy to announce the arrival of our baby daughter. This is a very special moment in our lives and we thank everyone for their kindness and support.

The Ming Dynasty has added a new, tiny member.

Houston Rockets center Yao Ming’s wife Ye Li gave birth to a seven-pound, nine-ounce baby girl on Friday, May 20.

The Mings did not release the name of the baby.

"I am very excited about the arrival of our daughter," Yao Ming said in a statement.

"This is a very special moment in our lives and we thank everyone for their kindness and support."

Yao Ming stands at seven-foot-six and his wife, Ye Li, is a former basketball player who stands at six-foot-two.  Many in China have speculated that the two would produce a future basketball star.

The couple married in August 2007.  Their new baby daughter weighed seven pounds, six ounces.

The baby will be an American citizen since she was born in the U.S., a matter that stirred some controversy among Chinese authorities - some of whom pulled for "Baby Yao" to be born in China.

Yao's baby could claim Chinese citizenship as the child of Chinese nationals. However, Chinese law does not recognize dual citizenship, according to the Associated Press.
