Nick Goody, a relief pitcher in the New York Yankees farm system, has been shut down for the foreseeable future with a sprained ankle. The Journal News’ Chad Jennings reported on Saturday that Goody arrived in the Yankees clubhouse on crutches. According to Jennings, Goody’s injury comes as a result of a car accident. It is unknown how long Goody will be out for.
A sixth-round pick out of LSU in last year’s MLB Amateur Draft, Goody split time between Staten Island, Charleston, and Tampa in 2012. The 21-year-old relief pitcher recorded a 1-2 record with a 1.12 ERA while striking out 52 batters in 32 innings pitched. He also recorded seven saves. After receiving an invitation to spring training despite just 23 games of professional experience, several beat writers have pegged Goody as a talent who could move quickly through the Yankees’ minor league system.
Goody is slated to begin the season in High-A with the Tampa Yankees.
