Yankees cut nine minor leaguers from camp

Nine minor league players received the news on Saturday that they had been reassigned to the New York Yankees’ minor-league camp for the remainder of spring training. Of the nine, only one, Kyle Roller, was a position player. Also included on the list was a pair of selections from last year’s amateur draft, Corey Black and Nick Goody.

Of the nine players cut, six were likely to begin the year no higher than Class-A Advanced Tampa this season. RHPs Matt Daley, Ryan Pope, and Zach Nuding will likely begin the season in Trenton or Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season. It was a bit surprising that Daley, who has spent parts of four seasons in the major leagues with the Colorado Rockies, could not stick around in major league camp longer. This spring, the 30-year-old right-hander had pitched in three games, striking out four and allowing just one hit in 2.1 innings pitched.

The full list of cuts is below:

RHP Corey Black
RHP Matt Daley
RHP Nick Goody
RHP Shane Greene
RHP Bryan Mitchell
RHP Zach Nuding
RHP Mike O’Brien
RHP Ryan Pope
1B Kyle Roller
