Yankees chosen to play in Worl Baseball Classic

The World Baseball Classic rosters have been set and teams are anxiously awaiting the beginning of this tournament. Three New York Yankees' players including two former Tampa Yankees have secured their spots to play.

Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira will play for the Unites States team in the classic. Teixeira will join other Major League All-Stars such as Ryan Braun, R.A. Dickey, Joe Mauer, David Wright, Ben Zobrist and many more.

Second-base All-Star Robinson Cano will play for the Dominican Republic. A former T-Yank, Cano, spent the better part of the 2003 season in Tampa. He recorded a .276 batting average along with 5 homers and 50RBIs. Cano’s teammates on the Dominican Republic team include Miguel Tejada, Adrian Beltre and others.

Yanks’ catcher Francisco Cervelli will play for team Italy. Cervelli, another former Tampa Yankee, played in Tampa throughout the 2008 season. He maintained a .279 batting average along with 2 homers and 32 RBIs. Cervelli will be joined by the Pirates’ Jason Grilli, Dodgers’ Nick Punto and many other standouts players.

The World Baseball Classic will begin on Saturday, March 2, 2013.
