Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer delivered the keynote address at the 2014 International Consumer Electronics Show on Tuesday. The focus for Yahoo is on becoming the online source for news.

Mayer started her address focusing on facts and figures on mobile phone use, and then announced Yahoo's acquisition of Aviate, a company which makes smartphone apps.

The former Google executive Mayer went on to describe and detail the improvements in Yahoo search.

Mayer introduced new employee Katie Couric. The celebrity news anchor is joining Yahoo to provide original news programming. After some time on stage by Katie Couric, the keynote address spent a fair amount of time unveiling Yahoo News Digest. The news services touts itself as the perfect blend between technology and journalism.

After a demonstration of the Yahoo News Digest, the keynote went on to pitch several products and services. First a new vision for a series of digital magazines was demonstrated, Yahoo Smart TV that recommends shows for your viewing was illustrated, followed by a discussion of trends for Yahoo owned site Tumblr. The keynote address ended with a presentation on various Yahoo advertising products.

Some keynote addresses tell a story, others talk about visions and innovations in the world of technology. While the message that Yahoo was delivering is that they are a big player in the world of news and entertainment, the Marissa Mayer keynote felt a lot more like an hour long infomercial for Yahoo products, rather than anything engaging or entertaining.
