It's been the better part of a year since the WayForward veterans at Yacht Club Games announced the development of Shovel Knight, and with the release of a flashy new trailer they've revealed that the wait won't be much longer; Shovel Knight will make its way to Steam and the Nintendo eShop on March 31.
The developer mentions on its official site that beta testing has just begun on the game but assures that everything will be finished in the next few months. It also had something interesting to say concerning the wait for an official release date:
"In the remaining weeks, our time will be spent doing playthroughs, playtesting, balance, iteration, polish, dialog, localization, testing, certification…exciting stuff. The polish that happens now is one of the most important phases of development! And if you’re wondering why it took so long, let’s just say the game got a lot bigger than we originally intended, and we think everyone will be happy with that!"
Could this be talking about the numerous stretch goals the project hit during its Kickstarter campaign? Maybe the inclusion of Zubaz as a secret boss? We'll see soon enough.
