The role of Adam Newman will now be played by Justin Hartley as reported on Aug. 19, and he will begin taping scenes in September. Fan reaction has been fast and furious since the news that the role has been recast.
Justin Hartley has a background working in soap operas, having been on the long defunct NBC daytime drama “Passions.” He has also appeared on “Smallville” and in the ABC dramas “Revenge” and “Mistresses.”
Hartley is excited about taking on the role of Adam Newman. But how will fans react? After Michael Muhney’s termination under suspicious and unproven circumstances, ratings have fluctuated and at one point 500,000 viewers stopped watching “The Young and the Restless.”
Many Michael Muhney fans have tuned into the ABC daytime drama “General Hospital” in the hopes that he has been cast in a role on the popular show. Speculation has run rampant as to what role he would assume or if he would be cast as a new character.
Michelle Stafford, ex-Phyllis Newman, joined the cast of “General Hospital” as the devious Nina Clay, wife of Dr. Silas Clay. Nina awake from a 20 year coma and returned to Port Charles in early June. Fans are hoping that Billy Miller, ex-Billy Abbott, has been cast as the returned-from-the-dead Jason Morgan. Speculation is that the writers at “General Hospital” may revive the character of A.J. Quartermaine as well and that Muhney has been cast in that role.
Three very popular actors have now been replaced and their roles recast on “The Young and the Restless.” Burgess Jenkins took over the role from David Tom. Tom had been the recast of Billy Abbot when Billy Miller exited the role.
Gina Tognoni recently appeared as the new Phyllis Newman. The character has been in a coma since last year when she took a fall down the stairs during a scuffle with Sharon Newman.
Now, “The Young and the Restless” has recast Adam Newman with Justin Hartley. Will fans give Justin a chance as Adam Newman? And if Michael Muhney has joined the cast of “General Hospital” how will that affect the ratings of both soap operas?
